Will Tyler Rogers close game 7 of the World Series now?

The Toronto Blue Jays just added a pitcher who throws like no one else in the league. Legend Tyler Rogers, known for his unique style and unorthodox delivery, has officially signed with the Jays.

Toronto signed him to a three-year, $37 million deal. That's not bad for a guy who has a career 2.76 ERA.

Who Is This Guy?

Tyler Rogers is not your typical pitcher. Standing at 5'10", he doesn’t overpower hitters with speed. Instead, he relies on deception, control, and a delivery that looks like it came from a different sport. His signature submarine style means the ball comes in from a low angle, almost skimming the dirt, making it tough for batters to pick up the pitch.

Rogers has been a reliable reliever in the majors, mostly with the San Francisco Giants. Over the past few seasons, he has carved out a niche as a dependable bullpen arm, posting solid numbers despite not fitting the usual mold of a power pitcher. His ERA has hovered around the mid to sub-3.00s, and his ability to induce ground balls has served well for him.

Why Did We Sign Him?

Toronto’s bullpen is not well fortified. Rogers adds depth, and maybe he could close for us. Maybe.

Here’s why this signing makes sense:

  • Unique Delivery: Rogers’ submarine style is rare and difficult to prepare for. Opposing hitters don’t see many pitchers like him, which gives the Blue Jays an edge.

  • Ground Ball Machine: He induces ground balls at a high rate, which is gold in a ballpark like Rogers Centre where fly balls can turn into home runs.

  • Durability: Rogers has shown he can handle a heavy workload, appearing in over 60 games in multiple seasons.

  • Veteran Presence: At 32, he brings experience and a calm demeanor to a bullpen that sometimes looks like a circus.

The Blue Jays are hoping Rogers can slot into their bullpen as a reliable middle reliever or setup man, bridging the gap to their closer.

What Fans Can Expect From Rogers

If you’re expecting fireworks and triple-digit heat, you’ll be disappointed. Rogers isn’t about overpowering hitters; he’s about outsmarting them. He throws that funky submarine arm style pitch, you know. His pitches sit in the mid-80s mph range, but the movement and angle make them look much faster.

Expect to see:

  • Submarine Delivery: The ball will come in low and sneaky, often making batters swing under or late.

  • Sinkers and Sliders: His main weapons are a sinking fastball and a sweeping slider that break away from right-handed hitters.

  • Low Walk Rates: Rogers is known for his control, rarely giving free passes.

  • Ground Ball Outs: Many of his outs will come from weak grounders, which helps the defense.

Basically, this means fewer long innings and more quick outs, especially in tight games. We seem to have long, stressful innings in tight games.

What This Means for the Blue Jays’ Season

The bullpen has been a weak spot for Toronto, costing them games they should have won. (like game 7 of the World Series) Rogers’ signing could be the fix they need to turn close games into wins.

If he performs as expected, the Jays could see:

  • More consistent late-inning pitching

  • Fewer blown leads

  • Better matchups against tough hitters

  • A bullpen that can handle high-pressure situations

This signing won’t single-handedly win the division, but it’s a smart move that adds depth and variety to the pitching staff.

Final Thoughts

Tyler Rogers is a legend. He should perform well for us.
