Montreal put forth an uninspiring performance against a division rival.

Coming off a blowout against the Colorado Avalanche, one would think the Montreal Canadiens would come out flying and play well against their divisional rival, the Ottawa Senators. The two teams were only separated by a single point in the standings.

However, the opposite happened. They were outplayed and dominated by Ottawa, losing 5-2.

1st Period:

Things started well for Montreal. They got an early power play, and Slafkovsky scored to make it 1-0.

Then immediately scored to tie it. Zetterlund scored from far out to tie the game. Monty should have saved it.

Ottawa played better the rest of the period. Zub scored late in the period on terrible defensive coverage to make it 2-1 Ottawa after one period.

2nd Period:

More bad defense in the second period. The Habs allowed two quick goals to make it 4-1 Sens. One on a net drive, and another on a bad rebound from Monty to leave a wide-open net.

Suzuki scored on another Habs' power play to make it 4-2. At least the power play showed up tonight.

3rd Period:

More uninspiring hockey. Montreal couldn't do anything really.

Tkachuk scored one more goal to essentially ice the game. 5-2 Ottawa wins.

Thoughts:

Just pathetic hockey. They should've come out flying, but instead were flat and lethargic. They did nothing 5 on 5, and were thoroughly outplayed for most of the game.

The defense looked terrible, and our goaltending is back to shit. I thought Monty rediscovered his form in Vegas, but I guess not.

Hab of the Night: Nick Suzuki

Sure, why not. He had two points: a goal and an assist.

Next Up: Vs Jets

They're going to have to play a lot better tomorrow. Maybe don't get outshot every game and put 30 shots on net for once.
